I’ve been asked many times to name the most iconic bags of all time. The Louis Vuitton Speedy is always part of my list. Not only is Louis Vuitton one of the most well-known design houses, but also the Speedy is one of the most iconic handbags. Precisely for this reason the Louis Vuitton Speedy will forever be classified as an iconic handbag.

LOUIS VUITTON CELEBRATES EARTH DAY

First off, apologies for such a late post on such an amazing initiative. Louis Vuitton is honoring the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day, giving 10% of all sales purchased on their website today to Global Green USA. This 10% donation to Global Green will help support their Green Schools initiative, which will help turn K-12 schools in select cities across the United States turn more green.

Along with this Louis Vuitton is sharing messages on both their website and twitter page on how to they try to help protect the environment.

Why does this matter? A large corporation like Louis Vuitton is in the spotlight with consumers and other industry people following what it is the company is doing. To see a focus on bringing awareness to protecting the environment and planet is not only refreshing but also responsible.

There is an amazing collection from Louis Vuitton. I’m sure most of you will be interested at it. It is the Louis Vuitton New Taiga Collection. There are three new colors, namely deep navy blue, grey and brownish-beige. Let’s begin it with a picture of a handsome Louis Vuitton Taiga Collection model.

First, we’ve got the Louis Vuitton New Taiga Cabas Zippé, the above comes in grey and the below comes in deep navy blue. Personally speaking, I really like this design and the colors. It is made from full leather, but surprising, as a LV bag, it is just priced at SGD3520.

Second, we’ve got the huge backpack, officially known as the Louis Vuitton New Taiga Sac A Dos which will only come in brownish-beige. Retailing for SGD7400, it is the most expensive piece in this collection.

Then there is the suitcase named as Louis Vuitton New Taiga Mitka, which only come in 2 colors, deep navy blue and grey. Priced at SGD6150, it is much more practical than the backpack. I think it will sit well with those who travel often for business trips.

Oh boy does Ashley have friends in high places. Here she is on May 21st looking all too pleased to be followed, Ashley is out and about with her little dog and her Monogram Embossed Stephen which was an extremely Limited bag. No where to be found now, Ashley  is a girl after our own heart, a bag person with a collection that is the only thing that makes us envious of her.

Update – Louis Vuitton Monogram Denim Collection

I’ve just received confirmation of the final colour palette and prices in SGD for the new Louis Vuitton Monogram Denim collection (from the S/S10 Womens Louis Vuitton collection) that looks set to be released in Singapore around March (in Paris on 26 February 2010). Often what you see on the runway is different from what is finally put into production so this post will hopefully answer all those outstanding queries and emails I’ve yet to answer.

For starters, there are only 3 models that made it into the workshop, the Monogram Denim Sunrise, the Monogram Denim Sunshine and theMonogram Denim Sunburst which comes in 2 sizes, PM and GM.

First up, the Monogram Denim Sunrise (shown above), distinguished by its double buckles that will retail for SGD4020. Besides Blue it will also come in Orange.

Next we’ve got the Monogram Denim Sunshine, distinguished by (you guessed it) a single buckle. Besides Rose (shown above), it also comes in Blue and retails for SGD3520.

From Neverfull to Totally, their names and GM size exude his idea to function and trend. This time, Louis Vuitton launchedScuba GM from the Cruise collection. Its huge dimension inherits Louis Vuitton’s feature of this year. And its material is creative of neoprene in conformity with its name- Scuba.

Scuba, an acronym for self contained underwater breathing apparatus literally, is made from neoprene, a synthetic rubber for waterproofing that is used in Louis Vuitton purse.  This innovative purse is lightweight coming in two striking fluorescent colors: Fuchsia and Orange, both of which makes a must have summer accessory.

Louis Vuitton Monogram Scuba GM can be carried comfortably by hand or carried on the wrist thanks to the black leather wrist strap that surely compliments the neon neoprene. The purse also features the striking 1929 Louis Vuitton golden brass plaque that adds glam to its whole look. The size of this Scuba GM is 23.6 inches in length, 18.1 inches in width, and 12.2 inches in height. It is versatile for downtown and beach.

But there is one thing need to confirm. Is it worth $2,580 for this neoprene purse? We know that neoprene is usually used in a wide variety of applications, such as in wetsuits. Neoprene is just the trade name used by DuPont Performance Elastomers. It is not expensive after all. Just for it comes from Louis Vuitton? Or maybe some high technology used in it boosted as SA? This time, Marc Jacobs is really a touch of overestimating himself.

ANOTHER LOUIS VUITTON LAWSUIT IMMINENT?

We remember the recent coverage of Louis Vuitton’s lawsuit against the Korean carmaker Hyundai in March. This time around, I am afraid that LV’s next legal slapping may just involve the lovely Mythbusters crew and multiple layers of explosive, tightly-wound pork skin.

 

Since I am currently abroad in Germany, I did not get to watch the latest installment of my favorite Discovery Channel show Mythbusters until earlier today. The myth at hand sought to prove whether or not ancient armies could have used animal hides to build their canons. The first all-leather build failed miserably, so in best MB tradition, Kari, Grant and Tory went on to build a pig-skin-super-canon with several reinforced layers to withstand the blast of the black powder.

As a silly play on designer leather handbags, Kari adorned the whole barrel of the leather canon with their own flavor of ‘MB’ monogram. It just so happened to closely resemble the Louis Vuitton monogram, which had been subject of several lawsuits in the past. As we know, LV is very protective of their brand and their logos – I for one would just hate to see my favorite geek crew get in trouble over this awesomely busted myth.
